Italian marble

Italy has since long been known for its rich history of art and culture. Amongst its various works of art by renowned artists such as Michel Angelo and Da Vinci, are monuments and statues that are crafted using the world-famous Italian marbles. These marbles are extracted from the various quarries in Italy. Italian marbles are famous because of their smooth finishing, strength and luminescent properties.

Based on the origin of their quarries, each of them has different properties and patterns. After extraction, the Italians are also skilled at processing them to create beautiful patterns, designs, of various types and shapes such as slabs, blocks and mosaics. Italian marbles are available in various colors such as white, beige, grey, blue and rose.

The Italian marble has three popular varieties- the Calacatta, the Carrara and the Statuario. All of the three varieties are quarried from the Carrara area, near Tuscany, Italy. The Calacatta is the rare stone that is mined from a much deeper quarry. It comes in white to milky white background, with thick and strong veining in colors such as gold, brown and grey. The use of this marble is associated with luxury and is therefore found only in the world’s finest hotels and residential premises.

The Carrara is the most common variety of the Italian marble that is abundantly found. It has a grey, blue-grey background with delicate, linear veining. It is the cheapest form of Italian marble. The Statuario is a bright white marble with bold grey contrasting veining. Due to its high demand and low supply, it is heavily priced.
